"Pen of Healing: Where Stories Become Pathways to Freedom"

By: Dr. Darlene "Dr. Dee" Williams

"The pen has power to heal what words cannot speak aloud.

Step into your healing journey with Dr. Darlene "Dr. Dee" Williams—Author, Coach, and guide through grief, faith, and freedom."

“I help executives, individuals, and coaches transform pain into purpose, purpose into confident impact, and passion into life-changing inspiration—because I’ve lived healing, not just taught it."

… Dr. Dee

Welcome to the Pen of Healing

Grief doesn’t come with instructions, and healing rarely follows a straight line.

That’s why I write—not just to share my story, but to give you a roadmap through yours.

My books are more than pages; they are lifelines. They are for the one who has cried in silence, the one who has questioned God in the midnight hour, and the one who longs to feel whole again.

Building Connection

Every word I write flows from lived experience: the tears, the prayers, the questions, and the breakthroughs.

I don’t just tell you what to do—I walk with you through it.

When you join the Pen of Healing journey, you’re not just reading a book.

You’re stepping into a movement where grief is met with grace,

pain is met with purpose, and broken pieces are transformed into bold living.

Joy in the Journey™ – A Trauma-Informed Book Series & Curriculum for Students K–College

Did you know that 1 in 13 children in the U.S. (nearly 5.6 million) will lose a parent or sibling by age 18—and that more than half of students report struggling to concentrate in school after a significant loss?

Why It Matters

Our students are silently grieving. They’re walking into classrooms carrying not just books, but the heavy weight of grief, trauma, anxiety, identity loss, and emotional overwhelm.

That’s why Dr. Dee and Restoring Bountiful Joy, LLC created

Joy in the Journey™

A Trauma-Informed Book Series & Curriculum for Students Kindergarten–College.

When we equip students with tools for healing and identity, we don’t just teach them for today—

we prepare them for a lifetime of resilience, leadership, and purpose.

This first-of-its-kind, literature-based curriculum is designed to give students the tools they

need to process pain, rediscover identity, and reclaim purpose. It’s more than reading—it’s healing-centered education that restores emotional safety, builds resilience, and helps students rise as confident leaders.

Maya & Cory – The Map of Me

(Grades K–4)

Children in early grades often feel big emotions but don’t always have the words to express them. Grief, change, and identity loss can leave them silent and unseen.

The Map of Me helps young readers name their feelings, discover who they are, and build resilience through gentle storytelling and relatable characters.

Give your K–4 students a safe space to explore identity and emotions while learning healthy ways to process loss and rediscover joy.

Jada & Brandon – Unlocking Me

(Grades 5–8)

Middle school students are navigating identity, belonging, and peer pressures—all while carrying silent grief and transitions that impact their confidence.

Unlocking Me provides relatable stories and journaling prompts that help students process change, release hidden burdens, and unlock their voice.

Empower your 5–8 graders with tools to face grief, build resilience, and step into their next chapter with strength and self-awareness.

Leah & Elijah – Becoming Me

(Grades 9–12)

High schoolers often juggle academic pressures, personal loss, and questions of identity, leaving many overwhelmed or disconnected.

Becoming Me guides teens through honest conversations about grief, resilience, leadership, and purpose, giving them tools to turn struggle into strength.

Equip your 9–12 graders to embrace healing and lead with clarity, courage, and confidence—preparing them for life beyond the classroom.

Rooted & Rising – College Edition (Ages 18–24)

Young adults in college face transitions, independence, and hidden grief while navigating their purpose and future.

Rooted & Rising speaks directly to this age group, blending reflective storytelling with faith, resilience, and identity formation for young adults finding their way.

Provide your students or young leaders with a framework to stay grounded, rise with purpose, and carry resilience into every area of life.

What Grief Looks Like in Students (K–College)

  • In a kindergarten classroom, grief may show up as a child clinging tightly to their teacher’s hand, or suddenly forgetting how to tie their shoes—skills they had mastered weeks ago. They may not have the words to explain their loss, so they express it through play, drawing, or even tantrums.

  • By middle school, grief can look like anger or rebellion. The child who once loved school suddenly doesn’t want to do homework. They may snap at friends, isolate themselves, or mask their pain with jokes. Their grades slip, and teachers may label them “lazy” or “unmotivated,” when in truth, they’re carrying a heavy burden they don’t yet know how to name.

  • High school students often learn to wear masks. To fit in with peers, they may bury their grief beneath perfectionism, sports, or overachievement. Others may withdraw, retreating behind closed doors, battling thoughts of hopelessness or shame. Parents and teachers may see only mood swings or missed assignments, not realizing it’s grief speaking louder than words.

  • And in college, grief can be especially silent. Young adults may be away from home for the first time, trying to manage independence while privately struggling with the pain of loss. Some throw themselves into work, parties, or unhealthy habits. Others fall behind in class, lose motivation, or wrestle with anxiety about the future. They may not reach out—because they don’t want to burden anyone, or they believe no one will understand.

The truth is this: grief in students doesn’t always look like sadness. It can look like anger.

It can look like silence. It can even look like success. But beneath the surface,

they’re searching for hope, for stability, and for a safe space to heal.

That’s why Joy in the Journey™ was created—to help children and young adults process their pain in ways that honor their story and strengthen their future. Through relatable characters, practical tools, and

trauma-informed strategies, these books open the door for conversations about grief and healing

at every stage of development—from the curious kindergartener to the resilient college student.

Because no child should have to carry grief alone.

What is Grief?

Grief is not just about death—it shows up in divorce, trauma, broken relationships, job loss, health challenges, and shattered dreams. It’s the silent weight people carry when life no longer looks the way they imagined.
